Real Valladolid vs Sevilla match preview

After another impressive result in the Europa League, Sevilla have moved one step closer to winning that competition for a record-extending seventh time.

On Thursday night, los Nervionenses were the better team throughout, and led 1-0 against Juventus after Lucas Ocampos put it on a plate for Youssef En-Nesyri to slot home.

However, just when it looked as though José Luis Mendilibar had masterminded a famous win, there was to be a late twist in Turin, with Juve equalising in the 97th minute.

Nevertheless, with the second leg to come at home, los Hispalenses are in the box-seat to reach the final on 31 May.

In La Liga, since Mendilibar’s arrival, Sevilla have won five of seven matches, their sole defeat coming at the hands of Girona.

This has seen them climb away from the relegation zone and up to 11th, although the Europa League is firmly their priority, so expect to see a heavily rotated team here.

Blanquivioletas come into this clash following three successive defeats, most-recently beaten 2-1 by Rayo Vallecano at Vallecas.

Prior to this downturn, Paulo Pezzolano’s team had actually enjoyed back-to-back wins, but remain 16th, a mere one point clear of the relegation zone.

Thus, a victory for Valladolid would be a gigantic step towards survival, so will they claim it at Estadio José Zorrilla?
