Real Sociedad vs Girona match preview

Can Real Sociedad tighten their grip over fourth place?

Last time out, La Real claimed a famous victory over Real Madrid, with Takefusa Kubo, against his former club, and then Ander Barrenetxea on target in San Sebastián.

So now, having won five of their last eight, Imanol Alguacil’s team remain fourth, seven points clear of Villarreal and nine ahead of Betis.

Los Txuri-Urdinak therefore need a maximum of nine more points from their remaining five fixtures to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in a decade.

This won’t be easy though because, after this, La Real’s fixtures are: Barcelona (A), Almería (H), Atlético Madrid (A), and Sevilla (H).

Given the difficulty of their run-in, Real Sociedad will be desperate to put three more points on the board here.

Blanquivermells come into this clash following three successive victories, beating Real Madrid 4-2, Sevilla 2-0 and then Mallorca 2-1.

Taty Castellanos bagged all four as they smashed Real at Montilivi, before also netting a late winner last time out.

So Míchel’s men, who won the Segunda División play-offs 11 months ago, are seventh, which would see them enter the Europa Conference League play-off round.

Girona are currently above Athletic Club on head-to-head, with Rayo only on point back, so seventh spot is up for grabs.

Will Real Sociedad make home advantage count at Anoeta?
