It is time for the 188th Basque Derby, with these two fierce rivals doing battle in this huge Saturday night clash in La Liga.

Back in February, Athletic Club ran out 4-0 winners at San Mamés, their biggest derby victory since 1959, but come into this one winless in five visits to San Sebastián.

In the La Liga table, it’s Real Sociedad who kick off three places and six points better off than their neighbours.

La Real beat Almería 2-0 last Sunday, with birthday boy David Silva and then Alexander Sørloth on target at Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos.

This means los Txuri-Urdin have now won three league matches on the spin, previously defeating Osasuna on New Year’s Eve.

Imanol Alguacil’s team start the weekend in third place, seeking to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in a decade.

Similarly, Athletic Club Bilbao are also targeting a return to European competition.

Ernesto Valverde’s team have drawn both matches since the restart 0-0, held by Osasuna on Monday night and Real Betis in their first game back.

So, despite an excellent start to the season, the Lions have now won just two of their last nine, with their only away wins coming at Cádiz and Elche, the clubs 18th and bottom respectively.

Thus, Real Sociedad are favourites to claim three points, as well as the Basque bragging rights, at Anoeta.
