Real Madrid vs Celta Vigo match preview

Real Madrid may have nine La Liga games still to play, but their focus is very much on the other two competitions.

On Tuesday night, Carlo Ancelotti’s team reached the Champions League semi-final, finishing the job against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Having won the first leg 2-0 at home, Rodrygo’s second half brace in West London secured another victory by the same scoreline.

They’ll now face Manchester City in a rematch of last season’s semis, with the ties taking place on 9 and 17 May.

Before then, los Blancos could claim major silverware, set to face Osasuna in the Copa del Rey Final in a fortnight.

Those two ties will define los Merengues’ season as, back in La Liga, they’re a whopping 13 points below leaders Barcelona.

Celta de Vigo meanwhile are one of the few teams in La Liga with little to play for, sat 12th, nine points clear of the bottom three while simultaneously seven points adrift the European spots.

When Carlos Carvalhal arrived in November, O Celtiña were in the bottom three and his team were unbeaten in seven matches prior to Monday night’s 1-0 home reverse against Mallorca.

Thus, even if it’s of little consequence to both, a home win seems likely at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
