Match preview

Can Real Madrid bounce back following Thursday night’s disappointment?

In mid-week, los Blancos were beaten 1-0 by Barcelona in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final.

The winner has been accredited as an Éder Militão own goal while, up the other end, Real failed to have a single shot on target in a home match for the first time since April 2010.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team have it all to do when they travel to Camp Nou for the second leg on 5 April.

The same can be said of their place in La Liga, with los Merengues starting the day seven points adrift the leaders.

This gap would be even bigger if teenage striker Álvaro RodrĂguez hadn’t come off the bench to salvage a 1-1 draw in last Saturday’s el Derbi Madrileño.

This though will not be easy, with Real Betis currently in fifth place, just two behind Atlético in the final Champions League spot.

Los Verdiblancos have won each of their last three, most-recently coming from 2-0 down to beat bottom of the table Elche on Friday night.

The hosts ended the game with only nine-men, while Borja Iglesias both scored and then missed a penalty, Juan Miranda equalised, before Willian José snatched the points with a 95th minute spot-kick off his own.

Manuel Pellegrini’s team take on Manchester United on Thursday but, before then, will fancy their chances of a famous scalp at Estadio Benito Villamarín.
