Getafe vs Celta Vigo match preview

Are Getafe doomed for the drop?

A week ago, Azulones were beaten 2-1 by Almería at home, defeated by a side who hadn’t won an away game all season beforehand.

As a result, Quique Sánchez Flores was sacked on Thursday morning before, after initially turning down the job, José Bordalás was rehired as manager.

This did not have the desired immediate effect because, on Sunday evening, Getafe were beaten 1-0 by fellow-bottom three dwellers Espanyol at RCDE Stadium.

So, having lost three on the spin, they are now 19th, albeit a mere two points below both Valencia and AlmerĂa in the safety positions.

During his first spell in charge, Bordalás led Getafe to the Segunda División title, three top eight finishes in La Liga and the Europa League round of 16.

No such concerns for Celta de Vigo who kick off in 13th, even if only eight points better off than their hosts, emphasising how fine the margins are.

O Celtiña pretty much guaranteed safety a week ago by beating Elche, with Joseph Aidoo scoring the night’s only goal in stoppage time.

This is just as well because, at the weekend, Carlos Carvalhal’s team were beaten 3-1 by Villarreal at Estadio de la Cerámica.

Whatever happens, Celta will not be the story in this match, so can Getafe breath new life into their survival bid at Estadio Coliseum Alfonso PĂ©rez?
