Match preview

Can Deportivo Alavés climb closer to safety?

Last Saturday night, despite holding out for over an hour, José Luis Mendilibar's side were eventually beaten 3-0 by Real Madrid at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

This means el Glorioso have not lived up to this particular nickname, winning just one of their last 13 matches, dating back to 6 November.

That sole win was over Valencia a fortnight ago but they now need that to inspire some belief.

Alavés remain second bottom of the table, four points behind Granada and safety; those two meet in just three weeks time.

Getafe meanwhile looked destine for the Segunda División at the start of the season, accumulating one point from their first eight matches.

But, in more recent times, Quique Sánchez Flores' side have only lost three of their last 15, winning six of these matches.

Last weekend, they took the lead through Borja Mayoral's penalty but were held to a 1-1 draw by Cádiz at Estadio Ramón de Carranza.

All of this leaves the side from South Madrid 15th, six points above their Basque visitors.

Who will claim three vital points at Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez ?

Getafe team news

Gaku Shibasaki of Getafe

With left-back Mathías Olivera injured, midfielder Jakub Jankto is likely to continue as the auxiliary left-wing-back.

Nemanja Maksimović could rekindle his partnership with Mauro Arambarri in midfield, retaking Okay Yokuşlu's spot.

Enes Ünal and Borja Mayoral could continue as the strikers with Sandro Ramírez and Jaime Mata other decent options.

Deportivo Alavés team news

For Alavés, it's all about Joselu who, staggeringly, has scored 12 of their 19 La Liga goals on his own this season, that's 63.16%.

Jason and Luis Rioja could continue as the wide players in support but Facundo Pellistri or Edgar Méndez could come in.
