Eibar vs Deportivo Alavés match preview

These two clubs ended the Segunda División season level on 71 points, so there’s unlikely to be very little between them in this two-legged play-off.

Eibar won promotion to La Liga for the first time ever in 2014, spending seven years in the top-flight before suffering relegation in 2021.

12 months ago, los Armagiñak finished third in the Segunda, before being dumped out at this stage of the play-offs by Girona.

Last weekend, Gaizka Garitano’s team beat Huesca on the final day of the season, thereby settling for a fifth place finish.

Ahead of the second leg on Thursday in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Eibar will be desperate to claim a first leg lead.

Deportivo Alavés meantime are seeking an immediate return to La Liga, having finished rock bottom last time round.

Luis García Plaza’s side actually missed out on automatic promotion on the final day, held to a goalless draw by Las Palmas, a result that saw the club from the Canary Islands go up instead.

This’ll be Alavés’ first play-off campaign for 12 years, remaining rooted in the third-tier following a defeat at the hands of Lugo back then.

During this league season, these two clubs played out a goalless draw in the Basque County, before Alavés won 2-0 at Mendizorrotza in February.

In short, this tie is extremely tough to call, so can Eibar make home advantage count in the first leg at Ipurúa?
