Barcelona vs Real Sociedad match preview

All hail Barcelona, champions of Spain for the 27th time!

Last Sunday night, Barça were crowned champions for the first time in four years, doing so in the back yard of their biggest local rivals.

The Blaugranes raced into a 4-0 lead at RCDE Stadium, Robert Lewandowski, Alejandro Balde and Jules Koundé all on target, before Espanyol pulled two goals back late on.

So, with four games to go, Xavi’s team are champions, their first league title since 2019, having gone through the entirety of last season without claiming any silverware at all.

Lewandowski will win the Pichichi and Marc-André ter Stegen will pick-up a first-ever Trofeo Zamora, breaking all sorts of records, meaning it’s been a very successful campaign for Barça, in La Liga at least.

Having won their last three, will Barcelona end the campaign with an impressive winning streak?

In stark contrast, Real Sociedad still have plenty to play for, seeking to get into the Champions League for the first time in a decade.

La Real were held to a 2-2 draw by Girona last weekend, despite leading 2-0 after just 24 minutes at Anoeta through Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty and then David Silva.

Nevertheless, Imanol Alguacil’s team are unbeaten in five so remain fourth, five points clear of Villarreal.

Given that the Yellow Submarine boast the superior head-to-head between the two, los Txuri-Urdinak require eight points from their remaining four games to rubber stamp a top four finish.

Their fixtures are tough, facing Almería (H), Atlético Madrid (A), and Sevilla (H) after this, meaning every point is precious for La Real.

Barça have already beaten Real Sociedad twice this season, 4-1 in San Sebastián and 1-0 in the Copa del Rey, with another home win at Camp Nou likely.
