Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is set to miss the rest of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament, according to TyC Sports.
The Argentina defender was stretchered off during United’s 2-0 home defeat by Crystal Palace on Sunday and looked in visible pain as he left the pitch at Old Trafford.
Argentinian outlet TyC have now confirmed that the 27-year-old has torn his ACL and will not play again this season.
Manager Ruben Amorim said after the loss against Palace, which was his eighth since his Red Devils appointment, that the injury is “serious” and the player now faces a “difficult moment”.
“We are going to see in the next days but I think it is a serious situation,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “He felt it and when you are a player, you know when it is something serious.
“He is not only a great player but a strong character in the dressing room. We are here to help him in this difficult moment, like he has helped us.”

Martinez has made 32 appearances for United this season, including starts in 20 of their 24 Premier League games this season.
Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Mattjis de Ligt and Victor Lindelof are United’s remaining options at centre-back.
United have signed signed left-back Patrick Dorgu, 20, from Lecce and 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal during the transfer window but it remains to be seen how much game time either will get this season.
