United States vs Oman match preview

The United States were widely expected to pick up two victories over unglamorous Asian opponents this week, and are half way to achieving this.

On Saturday night, Gregg Berhalter’s second stint in charge began with a 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan in St. Louis.

Tim Weah lashing home from long-range at CityPark, before Ricardo Pepi added a second off the bench late on, with Christian Pulisic converting a penalty that turned out to be the last kick of the game.

The U.S. retained their CONCACAF Nations League title over the summer, but have to contend for friendly fixtures just now, set for tougher tests in October when Ghana and Germany come to visit.

The Stars and Stripes will next be in competitive action in November, faced with a two-legged Nations League play-off, in which a spot at next summer’s Copa América the prize on offer.

Before all of that, are USA set to enjoy another victory in Minnesota?

The Reds are far from international football heavyweights, although they do have January’s Asia Cup to look forward to, set to take on Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Kyrgyzstan in Group F.

Before then, Branko Ivanković’s team will begin their bid to reach a first-ever World Cup, with AFC qualification getting underway in November.

Oman have enjoyed recent friendly victories over Belarus, Syria and Lebanon, but this’ll be a substantially tougher assignment, with USA likely to cruise to victory at Allianz Field.
