The United States were widely expected to pick up two victories over unglamorous Asian opponents this week, and are half way to achieving this.

On Saturday night, Gregg Berhalter’s second stint in charge began with a 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan in St. Louis.

The Stars and Stripes will next be in competitive action in November, faced with a two-legged Nations League play-off, in which a spot at next summer’s Copa América the prize on offer.

The Reds are far from international football heavyweights, although they do have January’s Asia Cup to look forward to, set to take on Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Kyrgyzstan in Group F.

Before then, Branko Ivanković’s team will begin their bid to reach a first-ever World Cup, with AFC qualification getting underway in November.

Oman have enjoyed recent friendly victories over Belarus, Syria and Lebanon, but this’ll be a substantially tougher assignment, with USA likely to cruise to victory at Allianz Field.
