Group D’s top two go head-to-head in Eskişehir, so will either take a giant step towards Euro qualification?
In the reverse fixture in March, Türkiye came from a goal down to prevail 2-1 in Yerevan, with Orkun Kökçü and Kerem Aktürkoğlu on target.
Stefan Kuntz’s team were beaten 2-0 by Croatia in Bursa three days later, but responded with back-to-back victories in June.
First, İrfan Can Kahveci bagged a 95th minute winner in Rīga, mere moments after Latvia had equalised, before Umut Nayir and Arda Güler were on target in a 2-0 victory over Wales in Samsun.
This all means Türkiye lead the way, as they aim to reach a third successive Euros, and, given that this is their sole qualifier of the month, it’s vitally important that the Crescent-Stars pick up maximum points.
Armenia meantime have never qualified for a major tournament, but are believing they can make history.
Oleksandr Petrakov’s team enjoyed back-to-back victories in June, famously beating Wales 4-2 in Cardiff, before a 2-1 home win over Latvia, requiring Tigran Barseghyan’s stoppage time penalty in that one.
Overall, Armenia have won nine of their last 24 competitive games, so are dreaming of a top two finish, as tough as that’ll be, given that Türkiye, Croatia and Wales also feature in Group D.
So, can the away side claim a statement victory on the road, or will Turkey pull clear at the top of the table with a win at Yeni Eskişehir Atatürk Stadyumu?
