Sporting CP vs Porto betting tips: Taça da Liga Final preview, predictions and odds

Match preview

The 16th Taça da Liga Final sees the side who’ve dominated this competition in recent seasons face a club looking to lift this trophy for the very first time.

Sporting Clube de Portugal only won this competition for the first time in 2018, but have since regained the trophy in 2019, 2021 and last season.

12 months ago, Sporting came from behind to beat city-rivals Benfica in the final, with Pablo Sarabia the match-winner.

On Tuesday, the Leões reached another final by ousting Arouca in the semis, courtesy of Paulinho’s brace.

With Rúben Amorim’s men currently fourth in the Primeira Liga, 15 points below the leaders, victory in Leiria could help to kick-start their campaign.

FC Porto meanwhile, amazingly, have never won this tournament, beaten in the final on four previous occasions, most-recently by Braga in 2020.

On Wednesday night, the Dragões swatted aside Académico de Viseu in their semi-final tie, with Stephen Eustáquio, Danny Loader and Bernardo Folha all on target.

Sérgio Conceição has won eight major titles as Porto manager, but still needs this trophy to complete the set.

Earlier this season, Porto smashed Sporting 3-0 at Estádio do Dragão, meaning they’ve won each of their last three meetings.

However, all five finals since 2000 between the two have gone Sporting’s way, the last two of which came via penalty shootouts.

So, who will be celebrating silverware at Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa?
