Serbia vs Hungary match preview

Group G’s two juggernauts go head-to-head in Belgrade, with both seeking to take a big step towards European Championship qualification.

Both have played three matches so far and both have seven points on the board.

Serbia started with back-to-back 2-0 wins in March, beating Lithuania at home and Montenegro away, before an underwhelming 1-1 draw in Bulgaria last time out.

The Eagles required a 95th minute equaliser from Darko Lazović to salvage a draw at Huvepharma Arena in that one.

Similarly, Hungary have recored a pair of victories at Puskás Aréna, swatting aside Bulgaria 3-0 and then Lithuania 2-0 in June.

In their sole away fixture so far, Marco Rossi’s side could only muster a goalless draw with Montenegro at Stadion pod Goricom.

In Serbia’s case, this would be their Euros debut, so will Dragan Stojković’s team take a gigantic step towards this historic achievement at Stadion Rajko Mitić?

Serbia team news

Midfielders Saša Lukić and Mijat Gaćinović have both missed out on this squad due to injury.

Sergej Milinković-Savić and Aleksandar Mitrović, who both ply their trade in Saudi Arabia, have been included, with the latter seeking to add to his 52 international goals, half of which have been scored in Belgrade

Hungary team news

First-choice goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi is back in the squad after a year on the sidelines, but Dániel Gazdag is injured and Ádám Szalai retired at the end of last year.

So, Martin Ádám will lead the line, after scoring his first and second international goals back in March.

Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai though remains this team’s talisman.
