Poland vs Faroe Islands match preview

Poland’s Euro 2024 qualifying campaign has been nothing short of catastrophic so far, meaning they come into this two-game window under pressure.

Last time out, the Eagles raced into a 2-0 lead in Chișinău, with Arkadiusz Milik and Robert Lewandowski both on target.

But, against all the odds, Moldova fought back to pull of the most extraordinary comeback, with an 85th minute header making it 3-2, thereby securing their most famous victory of all-time.

For Poland, they’ve now lost back-to-back away games in Group E, having also been hammered 3-1 in Prague by Czechia back in March.

Fernando Santos’ side did narrowly beat Albania 1-0 in Warsaw in-between, but currently sit fourth in a group they were widely expected to cruise through.

Anything less than maximum points this week, the White-Reds also travel to Tirana on Sunday, would leave their qualification aspirations in the balance.

Faroe Islands are currently the only team below Poland, sat with just a solitary point on the board so far.

Håkan Ericson’s team did hold Moldova to a 1-1 draw in March, but then the Faroes suffered back-to-back defeats in the summer, swatted aside 3-0 by Czechia and 3-1 by Albania, both at Tórsvøllur.

So, a routine home win should be on the cards at Stadion Narodowy but, given how Poland have been playing, the Faroe Islands will believe a huge shock is possible.

Poland team news

Maik Nawrocki and Nicola Zalewski are currently out injured.

Robert Lewandowski’s 79 international goals have been scored against 36 different opponents, so can he add Faroe Islands to this list?

Faroe Islands team news

Klæmint Olsen is the primary goal threat in the visitors ranks, although the most-recent of his ten international goals came almost two years ago.
