Nigeria vs São Tomé and Príncipe match preview

Nigeria have already qualified for January’s Africa Cup of Nations, at which they’ll surely be amongst the favourites to be hoisting the trophy aloft come 11 February.

In this qualification campaign, the Super Eagles sit top, having won four out of five, including running out 10-0 winners in the reverse fixture against São Tomé and Príncipe, with Victor Osimhen the scorer of four that day.

They rubber stamped a top two finish back in June, dramatically beating Sierra Leone 3-2, thanks to Kelechi Ịheanachọ’s stoppage time winner.

As Nigeria conclude this campaign in Uyo, most would expect José Peseiro’s team to run riot.

São Tomé and Príncipe, in contrast, have conceded 23 goals in seven AFCON qualifiers so far, first overcoming Mauritius in the preliminary round just to get here.

Seleção dos Falcões e Papagaios did hold Sierra Leone to a 2-2 draw back in June 2022, but have lost their other four fixtures, so will not be debuting at a major tournament any time soon.

Thus, it’s pretty safe to assume that those inside Godswill Akpabio International Stadium are going to be treated to very many goals.
