Werder Bremen vs Mainz preview

Werder Bremen are sitting bottom of the Bundesliga and without a goal after the first two matches in the German top flight with the club back at the Weser Stadium this Saturday to meet with a winless Mainz side.

Bremen started their Bundesliga season with a 4-0 battering at home to Bayern Munich where the club saw just two shots on target after going 1-0 down inside eight minutes.

They followed this up with a defeat to Freiburg last weekend after a brutal 96th-minute winner, and after another two shots on target, it means only four have troubled an opposition goalkeeper in total so far.

Bremen have also lost to Viktoria Koln in the DFB-Pokal first round this season, as Niclas Fullkrug and Marvin Ducksch scored a goal each in a 3-2 defeat.

As for Mainz, they managed to get through their first round cup battle by beating SV Elversberg with a narrow 1-0 away win, but they followed this up with a 4-1 battering away to Union Berlin on matchday one in the Bundesliga.

The club also drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt last week, but it will be confident in this match given the terrible form of Bremen.
