Match preview

After causing a monumental upset in the third round, how far will Sheffield Wednesday go in this season’s competition?

Earlier this month, the Owls knocked out Newcastle United, the side currently third in the Premier League, in a shock for the ages.

Josh Windass bagging a brace on the night, much to the delight of the vast majority in attendance.

Darren Moore’s men had already overcome Morecambe and Mansfield in earlier rounds, and have once again been drawn at home.

Of course, the Owls’ main priority this season is ending their two-year exile in League One; they last spent longer in the third-tier in the last 1970s.

Right now, Sheffield Wednesday are second in the table, having won five successive league games, unbeaten in 15, dating back to 4 October.

So, the home side come into this all-League One affair as favourites, up against a side they beat 1-0 just last weekend; Marvin Johnson the scorer seven days ago.

Fleetwood Town, for their part, have now lost three successive league games, so are down in 17th, aiming to stay clear of danger.

In FA Cup terms, Scott Brown’s team eliminated Oxford City and Ebbsfleet before ousting QPR in round three, the latter a mini-upset in of itself.

That win over Queens Park Rangers was historic for the Cod Army, as this’ll be the first time they’ve ever featured in the fourth round.

So, this will be an historic day for Fleetwood, but one that’s likely to end in another defeat at Hillsborough.
