Match preview

The first tie at the Racecourse ground was a six-goal thriller, so what will these two clubs serve up in the replay just nine days later.

It looked like being a long afternoon for the underdogs when, with just 64 seconds on the clock, Oli McBurnie headed the visitors in front.

However, by the hour mark, Wrexham led, with both James Jones and Thomas O’Connor bundling home from close-range following set-pieces.

Oliver Norwood cooly slotted home an equaliser for Sheffield United, but then Daniel Jebbison was sent off for an off-the-ball punch aimed at Ben Tozer.

The game looked set to have a Hollywood ending when, with three to play, Paul Mullin fired through Adam Davies’ legs; 3-2 Wrexham!

But, it wasn’t to be for the non-league club because, in the 95th minute, John Egan fired home a last-gasp equaliser.

Wrexham are competing in the fourth round for the first time since 2000, having ousted Blyth Spartans, Oldham, Farnborough and Coventry City so far.

The primary aim for Phil Parkinson’s team this season is promotion into the EFL, and they’re right in the hunt to achieve this.

Having won seven successive National League games, the Red Dragons are second, three points below Notts County with two games in hand.

Similarly, Sheffield United are on course to get back into the Premier League.

Paul Heckingbottom’s team are second in the Championship, ten points clear of third, unbeaten in 11 matches in league and cup.

Having avoided a scare at the Racecourse ground, the Blades will fancy their chances back at Bramall Lane.

Whoever does prevail will host Tottenham Hotspur in a glamour fifth round tie on 1 March.
