After a very difficult week for Real Sociedad, it’s vitally important they get back in track here.

Last Sunday night, La Real were hammered 4-0 at San Mamés by fierce rivals Athletic Club Bilbao with all the goals coming in a 21 minute spree.

Then, on Thursday night, los Txuri-Urdin were eliminated from the UEFA Europa League.

Despite a credible 2-2 draw in the first leg, it was RB Leipzig who enjoyed a relatively comfortable 3-1 victory in San Sebastián, thereby reaching the round of 16.

This means La Real still haven’t won a post-Christmas European knockout tie since 1989.

Now, for Real Sociedad, it’s all about getting back into Europe next season, hoping to improve on their current positition of seventh.

Given this state of affairs, Osasuna make the short 52 mile journey north hopeful of leaving with a result.

Jagoba Arrasate’s side were beaten 3-0 by Atlético Madrid last weekend but that’s only their second defeat in six league games, winning three of them.

As a result, los Rojillos are comfortably in tenth place, just six points below their hosts.

Will either enjoy a vital victory at Anoeta?

Real Sociedad team news

For Real Sociedad, scoring goals has been the biggest problem so seeing Alexander Isak in Thursday night’s XI is a massive boost.

The Swede, who’s back after injury, could form a front quartet alongside David Silva, Portu and Mikel Oyarzabal.

Midweek scorer Martín Zubimendi could keep his place in midfield, alongside Rafinha, with Asier Illarramendi the alternative.

Mat Ryan had been keeping goal in the European and cup matches but Álex Remiro, rightly or wrongly, will return here.

Nacho Monreal is still injured, meaning Aihen Muñoz will keep his place at left-back.

Osasuna team news

The visitors are without Aridane Hernández and Jesús Areso so Juan Cruz could partner David García a the heart of defence again.

In midfield, there aren’t too many better trios than Darko Brašanac, Jon Moncayola and Lucas Torró in the middle part of La Liga.

Likewise, Chimy Ávila and Ante Budimir will be a threat in attack.
