Almost a year later than scheduled, the 2020 Copa del Rey Final is finally here.
Athletic Club will take on their huge Basque rivals Real Sociedad in a cup final for the very first time, but sadly no supporters will be at this one in Sevilla.
Over a year ago now, Athletic booked their place in the final by beating Barcelona 1-0 in the quarter-finals and the edging out Granada on away goals in the semis.
A lot has changed in Bilbao since then though.
Back in January, Gaizka Garitano was sacked as Head Coach and replaced by Marcelino.
Less than a fortnight later, Athletic were lifting the Supercopa de España, edging out Real Madrid in the semi-finals and then overcoming Barcelona in the final.
Iñaki Williams’ stunning extra time winner and Asier Villalibre playing the trumpet on the pitch afterwards will live long in the memory.
That was just Athletic’s second major honour since 1984, the other was also a Supercopa also won against Barça back in 2015.
Despite this, they could win two more trophies by the end of this month.
As well as this Copa del Rey Final, Athletic have made it through to this season’s final, beating Ibiza, Alcoyano, Real Betis and Levante to get there.
On 17 April 2021, they’ll face Barcelona, also at Estadio de La Cartuja.
Given that Athletic are currently down in ninth in La Liga, winning that final could be their best chance of being in Europe next season.
First though, will the Lions win a 24th Copa del Rey, beating their biggest rivals in the process?
Will Real Sociedad lift the cup?

Trophy wins in recent years have been an even more rare event at Real Sociedad.
Their road to this final included a famous 4-3 victory over Real Madrid at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in the quarter-finals 14 months ago.
Thus, La Real are looking to win their sixth major trophy, the most recent of which was when they last won this competition in 1987.
Real Sociedad are actually four places and ten points above Athletic in the table right now and won 1-0 at San Mamés when the two met on New Years’ Eve.
However, Imanol Alguacil’s side have lost their last two games, 1-0 at Granada and 6-1 at home to Barcelona.
This leaves them fifth, fighting to hold onto a European spot.
Despite this, and even without supporters in the stadium, it’s impossible to understate how big an occasion this is for La Real.
A cup final against their biggest rivals.
Will it be the men in blue and white who rise to this massive occasion?

Marcelino comes into this huge game with, pretty much, a fully fit squad available to him.
Given Athletic’s Basque only policy, almost none of the players have been away on international duty, apart from the two in the Spain squad.
One of those is Unai Simón who’s impressive performances in goal saw him start all three of Spain’s World Cup Qualifiers last week.
The other is Iñigo Martínez; this’ll be a huge occasion for him against his former club.
Yeray Álvarez is likely to get the nod alongside him at centre-back with Unai Núñez missing out.
In midfield, Unai López will sit in front of the defence but Dani García could displace Mikel Vesga next to him.
Further forward, Álex Berenguer could make up the attacking trio alongside Iker Muniain and Iñaki Williams.
The latter scored a spectacular winner in January’s Supercopa Final at Estadio de La Cartuja and has now scored 66 goals in 284 Athletic appearances.
Since Aritz Aduriz’s retirement a year ago, Raúl García has been playing the target man centre-forward role.
He won six major honours at Atlético de Madrid and is looking for a second at Athletic.
Other attacking options include Oihan Sancet, Ibai Gómez and the trumpeter himself Asier Villalibre if needed.

Real Sociedad meanwhile also have most of their key players primed and ready.
Álex Remiro, who came through Athletic’s youth system, has established himself as the number one goalkeeper, playing every La Liga match this season.
For their last game, Imanol Alguacil switched to a back five but, having been hammered 6-1 by Barça, they’re likely to revert to their usual 4-3-3.
At the back, Aritz Elustondo is a doubt so Robin Le Normand’s centre-back partner may be Igor Zubeldia.
Also, at left-back, Nacho Monreal is a doubt so Martín Merquelanz may have to deputise.
In front of them, Asier Illarramendi and Mikel Merino will be the more conservative duo with David Silva given licence to get forward.
In attack, Portu is likely to keep his place on the right, ahead of Adnan Januzaj.
There’s no doubt who will make up the front three with Mikel Oyarzabal and Alexander Isak La Real’s biggest goal threats.
They’ve both scored 12 goals this season and would go down in Real Sociedad history if their 13th of the campaign was to deliver the cup.
Will it be Copa del Rey joy for the side from San Sebastián?
