Mali vs South Sudan match preview

Given that the fate of both has already been decided, there’s little to play for at Stade du 26 Mars.

Mali beat Congo 2-0 in Brazzaville last time out, Ibrahima Koné and Nene Dorgeles on target, a victory that booked their place at next summer’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Les Aigles have reached the round of 16 at the last two AFCONs, with Éric Chelle’s side hopeful of going even further in Côte d’Ivoire next January.

South Sudan meantime have never qualified for a major tournament, a fact that will not be changing any time soon, given that they’re bottom of Group G with just three points to their name.

Back in June 2022, Mali won the reverse fixture 3-1, requiring two goals in stoppage time, with a more routine victory expected in Bàmakɔ̌ this time.
