Guatemala vs Panama match preview

After both made a winning start to this CONCACAF Nations League campaign on Thursday, will either complete their perfect week in Guatemala City?

Guatemala beat rivals El Salvador 2-0 on matchday one, courtesy of goals from Carlos Mejía and Pedro Altán.

Los Chapines have now won nine of 11 Nations League matches, achieving back-to-back promotions from the bottom-tier all the way up to the top.

Now, Luis Fernando Tena’s team are targeting a top two spot in this group, thereby qualifying for the quarter-finals, and keeping alive Guatemala’s hopes of appearing at next summer’s Copa América.

Panama though are the firm favourites to finish first in Group A, and they emphasised exactly why on Thursday.

Los Canaleros steamrollered Martinique 3-0 three nights ago, with José Fajardo, Ismael Díaz and Cecilio Waterman the scorers at Estadio Olímpico Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez.

So, Panama are, without doubt, one of the best teams six in CONCACAF, so they should be representing the region at the Copa América, but do have to earn their place there.

This pair are, almost inarguably, the strongest two teams in Group A, so who will claim a vital victory at Estadio Nacional Doroteo Guamuch Flores?
