Match preview

Georgia’s promotion up to the second-tier of the Nations League is now confirmed.

On Friday night, the Crusaders beat North Macedonia 2-0, with star man Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on target in front of almost 55,000 fans in Tbilisi.

Amazingly, only France’s home matches have seen more fans attend than Georgia’s, with Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena sold out once again.

This win means Willy Sagnol’s side have won four of five matches in this group, only dropping points at home to Bulgaria.

So, Georgia have League B football to look forward to, as well as a Euro 2024 play-off spot, as they bid to qualify for a major tournament for the very first time.

Gibraltar meanwhile are competing in League C for the very first time this season but, in truth, have been out of their depth.

Aside from a 1-1 home draw against Bulgaria in June, Julio César Ribas’ side have lost their other four matches, conceding 16 goals in total.

So, Gibraltar will compete in the relegation play-outs, needing to win to avoid an instant return to League D.

In March 2024, they’ll take on Belarus, Lithuania or Northern Ireland/Cyprus over two legs.

Before then, will Georgia be far too strong at Victoria Stadium?
