Estonia vs Sweden match preview

Sweden’s Euro 2024 qualifying hopes are hanging by a thread, and failure to leave Tallinn with maximum points could be all but curtains, even with half their fixtures still to play.

Last time out, Janne Andersson’s side were beaten 2-0 in Vienna, conceding twice in the final nine minutes, a result that could have serious consequences.

Back in March, the Blågult also lost their group opener against Belgium, swatted aside 3-0 in Solna, before hammering Azerbaijan 5-0 three days later.

Nevertheless, Sweden currently sit third, four points adrift Belgium and seven behind current leaders Austria.

From here on out, every game is simply must win for the Blue and Yellows, most-notably Austria’s visit to the Friends Arena this forthcoming Tuesday.

If Sweden fail to finish in the top two of Group F, they’ll miss out on a first Euros since ‘96, given that they will not be involved in the play-offs, following a catastrophic Nations League campaign last year.

The Blueshirts have just one point to their name so far, holding fellow-strugglers Azerbaijan to a 1-1 draw at Dalğa Arena during the summer.

Thomas Häberli’s team have therefore won only one of their last 21 qualifiers, this coming against Belarus two years ago.

So, despite Sweden’s ongoing issues, the Scandinavian side should leave A. Le Coq Arena with three important points.

Estonia team news

Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein may have only ever made one appearance for his club, this coming in the Carabao Cup last November, but the 21 year old will his 23rd cap for Estonia here.

Captain Konstantin Vassiljev could pick up his 152nd cap in midfield, while Henri Anier, who now plies his trade in Hong Kong for Lee Man FC, will be their main goal threat.

Sweden team news

Sweden could deploy a very exciting all-Premier League front three of Dejan Kuluševski and Anthony Elanga out-wide, with Alexander Isak through the middle.

Victor Lindelöf will captain the side from centre-back, while Robin Olsen will be donning the gloves.
