BATE Borisov vs Sheriff Tiraspol match preview

Having cruised to victory in Transnistria last Thursday, FC Sheriff Tiraspol can, almost, start planning for the play-offs.

A week ago, the hosts raced into a 3-0 lead at Sheriff Stadium, David Ankeye scoring twice and Cedric Badolo netting in-between, before Sidi Bane pulled one back for BATE Borisov.

Nevertheless, Momo Yansané scored not once but twice in stoppage time in Tiraspol, snatching a 5-1 victory for the Divizia Națională champions.

FC Sheriff made their Champions League group stage debut two years ago, before also getting into the Europa League last season, with Roberto Bordin’s team very much on track to repeat the latter.

BATE Borisov meantime featured in nine group phases between 2008 and 2018, but haven’t got to one since, falling in qualifying in each of the last four seasons.

Kirill Alshevsky’s side are hampered by the fact Belorussian clubs are forced to play ‘home’ ties behind-closed-doors and at neutral venues, hence why this match will take place at Mezőkövesdi Városi Stadion in Hungary.

The losers drop into the Europa Conference League play-off round, where they’ll meet Ballkani or Lincoln Red Imps.
