Who is Portugal’s João Félix?

When a club has paid €126 million for your services, the fourth-highest transfer fee of all time, you know you’ve got some talent.

In the summer of 2019, having won the Primeira Liga, João Félix left his boyhood club Benfica for Atlético de Madrid for the monumental fee.

Just before this move, he’d helped Portugal win the UEFA Nations League on home soil, starting the semi-final victory over Switzerland.

Since, he’s scored three times for A Seleção including home and away against Croatia in the second iteration of the Nations League.

At club level though, João Félix has struggled to make as much of an impact.

He’s scored just 19 times in 76 appearances for los Colchoneros and was largely little more than a bit part player as Atleti won La Liga this season.

Free from playing for Diego Simeone, could Félix shine for Portugal this summer?

Without doubt, the defending European Champions have one of the most talented squads in Europe and this includes in attacking areas.

Fernando Santos has to form a cohesive XI with offensive options including Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, André Silva, captain Cristiano Ronaldo, Félix and others to choose from.

They are one of the favourites to go all the way so will João Félix be given the opportunity to showcase his talents?
