West Bromwich Albion vs Sunderland match preview

Two sides separated by just a solitary point in the table are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at The Hawthorns this Sunday, April 23rd.

The matchup in question will see West Bromwich Albion act as hosts, in a meeting with Sunderland.

Beginning with the former, West Brom are fresh off a timely return to form over the course of the last week.

After failing to emerge triumphant from a quartet of successive outings, the Baggies first got the better of Stoke City at The Bet365 Stadium, courtesy of a Jayson Molumby double.

And this was followed in midweek by another victory on the road, when goals either side of the interval proved enough to guide Carlos Corberan’s troops beyond Blackpool.

Such efforts have seen West Brom climb to 8th in the Championship table, just two points adrift of the promotion playoff pace, whilst in possession of at least one game in hand on all of the sides around them in the standings.

Turning attentions towards Sunday’s visitors to The Hawthorns, Sunderland too remain in the hunt for a top-six finish, albeit on the outside looking in.

The Black Cats, all told, have emerged from each of their last six without defeat, a stretch featuring wins over the likes of Cardiff City and Birmingham City.

Most recently, on Tuesday night, Tony Mowbray’s men played host to a resurgent Huddersfield Town outfit, desperate for a positive result amid an ongoing battle against the drop.

And, when all was said and done at the Stadium of Light, the two sides were forced to settle for a share of the spoils, owing 1-1 result.

Sunderland, in turn, sit 10th in the table, albeit in the knowledge that a win later today would see them surge past the club’s upcoming hosts, to the heights of 6th.

We at 101, though, are backing an eventual stalemate to play out come the full-time whistle at The Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon.
