Match preview

The opening fixture of the Championship weekend is set to play out at The Hawthorns on Friday, February 3rd.

The matchup in question will see a West Bromwich Albion outfit eyeing a return to winning ways act hosts, in a meeting with Coventry City.

Starting with the former, West Brom have endured an altogether tough time of things over the last couple of weeks.

This comes with the Baggies, after spending the last couple of months surging up the standings in England’s 2nd tier, having slipped to a pair of back-to-back defeats.

Altogether more alarming, though, was an exit from the FA Cup last weekend, by way of a three-goal drubbing at Bristol City.

Despite such woes, though, West Brom will head into Friday’s action in the knowledge that an eventual victory would guide them back into the Championship’s promotion playoff spots.

Turning attentions towards the Baggies’ upcoming opponents, Coventry, on the other hand, will enter tonight’s action fresh off a morale-boosting triumph.

After seeing their own climb from the relegation battle to the fringes of the playoff battle brought to a firm end owing to just one win from eight, Coventry managed to stop the rot last time out.

After welcoming Huddersfield Town to the Ricoh Arena, goals on the part of Gustavo Hamer and Kasey Palmer proved enough to guide the Sky Blues to the right side of a 2-0 scoreline.

Should they go on to defy the odds to emerge with a 2nd win on the spin at The Hawthorns, Mark Robins’ troops, in turn, will move level on points with their hosts on the day.

We at 101, however, view as much as frankly unlikely.

Instead, we are backing West Brom’s quality to simply prove too much for Coventry come the full-time whistle in England’s west Midlands on Friday night.
