Sunderland vs Southampton match preview
One of the more high-profile fixtures of the upcoming Championship gameweek is set to play out at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, September 2nd.
The matchup in question will see Sunderland act as hosts, in a meeting with Southampton.
Beginning with the former, Sunderland, for their part, have battled their way back from an alarming opening to the season over the last couple of weeks.
After being condemned to back-to-back league defeats either side of an EFL Cup first round exit at the hands of League Two Crewe Alexandra, the Black Cats finally got their campaign up and running by way of a Jobe Bellingham-inspired 2-1 downing of Rotherham United.
And though Tony Mowbray’s troops fell short in efforts to make it two wins on the spin last weekend, they did manage to avoid defeat.
This came courtesy of a commendable point away to Coventry City.

Turning attentions towards Saturday’s visitors to the Stadium of Light, Southampton have of course enjoyed an altogether more productive start to the new season in England’s 2nd tier.
After being sent packing from the Premier League last time out, Russell Martin’s men have since kicked their pursuit of an immediate promotion into gear in solid fashion, sitting 4th in the standings.
This comes owing to a record of three wins, and a draw.
Most recently, after thanking transfer-linked Che Adams for a last-gasp victory at Plymouth Argyle, the Saints welcomed struggling Queens Park Rangers to St, Mary’s Stadium.
And though their ensuing performance left a lot to be desired, in the end, Southampton got the job done, by way of goals from Samuel Edozie and Adam Armstrong.
So, all of this taken into consideration, how do we at 101 envision Saturday’s action unfolding at the Stadium of Light?
Whilst visitors Southampton, for obvious reasons, should be considered favourites to take all three points, we would not be at all surprised to see an improving Sunderland battle their way to an eventual share of the spoils.
