Preston North End vs Sunderland match preview

Two sides eyeing their first victory of the Championship season are set to lock horns at Deepdale on Saturday, August 12th.

The matchup in question will see Preston North End act as hosts, in a meeting with Sunderland.

Beginning with the former, Preston are fresh off a solid-if-unspectacular result on opening day in England’s 2nd tier.

This came as the Lilywhites made the trip to Ashton Gate, for a meeting with Bristol City.

Despite dominating when it came to possession and shots at goal, Ryan Lowe’s troops, with a full 86 minutes on the clock, found themselves a goal down.

Putting their fighting spirit on show, though, Preston ultimately battled back, thanking summer addition Will Keane’s late strike for an eventual share of the spoils.

This came owing to a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

Though the Black Cats racked up two thirds of the possession, and a full 20 shots at goal, a lack of cutting edge in the final third ultimately proved their downfall.

After Ipswich struck twice in quick succession either side of the interval, Dan Neil’s late strike was left to represent little more than a consolation for the day’s hosts.

Not only that, but Trai Hume was given his marching orders for two bookable offences, meaning the 21-year-old will be unavailable for selection this weekend.

So, could Tony Mowbray’s men manage a bounce-back result in Lancashire later today?

We at 101 are backing Sunderland to indeed steady the ship, but only by way of a point, owing to a hard-fought stalemate with Preston.
