Match preview

A Millwall outfit in the thick of the promotion playoff battle are set to act as hosts, as Bristol City prepare to make the trip to The Den for a Championship clash on Thursday, December 29th.

The Lions are currently in the midst of an altogether hit and miss stretch of form.

After being put to the sword by Sunderland in nothing short of alarming fashion in the club’s first outing on the back of the World Cup break, Gary Rowett’s men disappointed once more in their ensuing fixture, en route to a 1-1 stalemate with relegation-threatened Wigan Athletic.

On the back of a two-week break to regather once more, though, Millwall, last time out, rebounded in spectacular fashion.

A trip to Vicarage Road to face Watford saw the Lions emerge on the right side of a 2-0 scoreline, courtesy of goals from Andreas Voglsammer and the in-form Zian Flemming.

His latest strike means that Flemming now sits third in the goalscoring charts in England’s 2nd tier, fresh off five goals in his last four appearances.

Millwall, in turn, remain 6th in the Championship, albeit in the knowledge that a victory in their game in hand could guide them as high as 4th.

And Rowett and co. will no doubt be confident in their chances of making it two wins on the spin come the full-time whistle at The Den on Thursday night.

This comes with their upcoming opponents having majorly struggled of late.

Bristol City, all told, have notched just a solitary victory from their last nine attempts across all competitions.

Each of the Robins’ last two outings, meanwhile, have culminated in defeat, at the hands of fellow battlers against the drop to League One.

After first being downed by Stoke City, last time out, Nigel Pearson’s men were then made altogether short work of by West Bromwich Albion .

Bristol, in turn, have slipped to 18th in the Championship table, just two points clear of the drop zone.

And we at 101 do not envision the Robins’ situation improving all that much next time out, either, backing Millwall to ultimately emerge on the right side of the result.
