Ipswich Town vs Cardiff City match preview

Two sides fresh off altogether contrasting results last time out are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at Portman Road this Saturday, September 2nd.

The matchup in question will see Ipswich Town act as hosts, in a meeting with Cardiff City.

Beginning with the former, Ipswich, of course, enjoyed a stellar opening to life back in England’s 2nd tier.

Surging out to an early lead atop the table, the Blues rattled off a trio of successive victories, over all of Sunderland, Stoke City, and Queens Park Rangers.

In turn, it no doubt came as a heavy blow when, last weekend, Kieran McKenna’s troops found themselves brought firmly back down to earth.

This came as an early contender for game of the season saw Ipswich ultimately emerge on the wrong side of a seven-goal thriller at home to Leeds United.

Turning attentions towards Saturday’s visitors, Cardiff, on the other hand, are fresh off a morale-boosting three-point haul last time out.

The Bluebirds’ season was kicked into gear in concerning fashion, courtesy of just a solitary point from an available nine.

After counting themselves unlucky not to emerge with a share of the spoils away to promotion-chasing Leicester City, though, a home meeting with Sheffield Wednesday saw Erol Bulut’s men finally afforded a much-needed rub of the green.

This came as a spot-kick a full eight minutes into injury-time was converted by Ryan Wintle, en route to a 2-1 triumph.

And Cardiff built on their first league win in midweek, too, sending high-flying Birmingham City packing from the League Cup.

So, all of this taken into consideration, how do we at 101 envision Saturday’s action playing out at Portman Road?

Despite Cardiff’s mini-resurgence, we are backing hosts Ipswich to ultimately prove too much for their visiting Welsh opponents.
