Burnley vs Sheffield United match preview

The headline fixture of the day in the Championship is set to play out at Turf Moor on Monday, April 10th.

The matchup in question will see Burnley play host to Sheffield United, in a top of the table clash.

Beginning with the former, Burnley, of course, are primed to head into proceedings in the knowledge that their spot back in the top tier of English football for next season is already secured.

This comes owing to the Clarets’ third win in four this past weekend.

A trip to the Riverside Stadium for a showdown with high-flying Middlesbrough saw Connor Roberts’ 2nd-half finish prove to be decisive, after Chuba Akpom had cancelled out Ashley Barnes’ early opener.

Vincent Kompany’s troops, in turn, saw their deserved promotion confirmed, now boasting an 11-point advantage atop the table.

And it just so happens that the outfit closest to Burnley in the standings also represent their opponents later this evening.

Sheffield United, for their part, have gone about solidifying their runners-up status in England’s 2nd tier over the course of the last couple of weeks.

Whilst Middlesbrough have suffered an untimely dip in form, the Blades have rattled off five wins from six across all competitions.

The latest came over the weekend, when Iliman Ndiaye’s early strike proved enough to guide Paul Heckingbottom’s men past Wigan Athletic at Bramall Lane.

United, in turn, have opened up a full seven-point advantage over the rest of the automatic promotion-chasing pack, boasting a game in hand on Luton Town directly below them, too.

A hard-fought 90 minutes, in turn, looks certain to be in store at Turf Moor on Monday night.

And we at 101 are backing hosts Burnley, when all is said and done, to reassert their dominance courtesy of a slender victory over Sheffield United.
