Blackburn Rovers vs Sunderland match preview

Two sides separated by little more than goal difference in the Championship table are set to lock horns as part of the midweek round of fixtures, on Wednesday, September 20th.

The matchup in question will see Blackburn Rovers act as hosts, in a meeting with Sunderland.

Beginning with the former, Blackburn have endured something of a hit-and-miss campaign to date.

All told, Rovers’ six fixtures have given rise to a trio of victories, albeit none of which have come in succession.

Most recently, after being condemned to an alarming 3-0 defeat at the hands of Plymouth Argyle, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s troops bounced back, in a home meeting with bottom-of-the-table Middlesbrough.

Sammie Szmodics proved himself the star of the show, notching a brace en route to a 2-1 final scoreline.

Such efforts leave Wednesday’s hosts sitting 8th in the standings in England’s 2nd tier.

Turning attentions towards this evening’s visitors, like their opponents-in-waiting, Sunderland have pieced together 10 points from the opening six rounds of Championship fixtures.

And yet, the Black Cats will head into proceedings in largely better form.

This comes with Tony Mowbray’s men, since a pair of back-to-back defeats to open the term, having since rattled off three wins and a draw from four.

This includes a pair of victories either side of the international break, the latter of which arrived this past weekend.

After seeing their hosts reduced to ten men early on, Sunderland took full advantage, putting Queens Park Rangers to the sword by three goals to one at Loftus Road.

They have, as a result leapfrogged Blackburn into 7th in the table, owing to a considerably superior goal difference.

So, all of this considered, how do we at 101 envision tonight’s action unfolding at Ewood Park?

Sunderland, based on form, should be considered favourites, but we would not be at all surprised to see Blackburn battle their way to a hard-fought share of the spoils.
