Zrinjski Mostar vs Slovan Bratislava match preview

Both of these two clubs will believe this tie is winnable, but underdogs HŠK Zrinjski Mostar will feel under pressure to claim a first leg advantage here.

In the previous round, the Bosnian champions required a penalty shootout to overcome Pyunik, winning 1-0 in Yerevan before actually losing 3-2 at home last Tuesday, with both teams scoring during extra time.

Tomislav Kiš, Zvonimir Kožulj, Matej Senić and Hrvoje Barišić all converted from 12 yards, with the Armenian side crashing out after failing to score their final two spot-kicks.

The Nobles’ best run in UEFA competition came last season when they reached the play-off round, dumped out by none other than Slovan Bratislava, on penalties no less, meaning Zrinjski are targeting revenge here.

As for the Slovakian champions, they dumped out Swift Hesperange in round one, only managing a draw at home, before a pair of Vladimír Weiss penalties at Stade de Luxembourg saw them advance.

ŠK Slovan Bratislava have featured in three UEFA group stages in the last four seasons, so come into this two-legged affair as favourites, hoping to leave Stadion pod Bijelim Brijegom with a positive result.

The losers drop into the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round, where they’ll face the losers of København vs Breiðablik.
