Match preview

There was never likely to be much to separate these two sides, and this tie is very much a knife edge after the first leg at San Siro.

22 nights ago, the game looked set to end goalless, until Inter were given the upper-hand with Otávio sent off for two bookable offences.

Then, with three minutes to play, the breakthrough came.

Nicolò Barella’s cross was headed onto the post by Romelu Lukaku, but the Belgian striker was on hand to fire home the rebound.

So, will Internazionale now make that advantage count in Northern Portugal?

Having ousted Barcelona in the group phase, I Nerazzurri are seeking to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in 12 years.

In Serie A, Simone Inzaghi’s side were actually beaten 2-1 by Spezia on Friday night, but remain second, ahead of Sunday’s Derby d’Italia.

Over in the Primeira Liga, Porto beat Estoril Praia 3-2 on Friday so are also second, eight points below Benfica.

Sérgio Conceição has already guided the Dragões to two Champions League quarter-finals, so will believe they can overturn that slender first leg deficit.

Expect a tense night at Estádio do Dragão.

Porto team news

Otávio’s red card in the first leg means he’s suspended.

Centre-back Pepe has celebrated his 40th birthday since the meeting at San Siro, so will become the oldest outfielder to ever feature in a Champions League game.

Up front, Mehdi Taremi came off the bench to score on Friday, and will lead the line here.

Inter Milan team news

Robin Gosens went off injured against Spezia so, if he’s not fit, Federico Dimarco will come in at left-wing-back.

Marcelo Brozović didn’t start the first leg, but will be in the XI this time to stiffen up midfield.

In goal, André Onana will return after club captain Samir Handanovič was rotated in on Friday.

Lautaro Martínez’s partner up front could be first leg match-winner Romelu Lukaku, chosen over Edin Džeko.
