Match preview

Arguably the form team in Europe, Manchester City are once again the team to beat in the Champions League as they look to end their frustrating run in the competition and finally get over the line for the first time in their history.

They will of course be spearheaded by the seemingly unstoppable Erling Haaland, who hit his third hat-trick of the season against Manchester United on Sunday to take his tally to 17 for the season in just 11 matches. And it is not just the goals, but the manner of the goals that will have defences around Europe scratching their heads over how they can possible stop him - particularly with a supply line of Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish.

So far in the Champions League, Pep Guardiola has refused to rotate his Norwegian striker and it looks unlikely that he will do so here - even with the talented Julian Alvarez waiting in the wings - though the creative midfielders behind him are more likely to be shifted around as they face potentially the weakest side in Group G - though Kobenhavn did claim a creditable draw against Sevilla in the last round.

There are likely to be goals at the Etihad whatever side Guardiola puts out, though they will want to tighten up at the back having already conceded 13 goals in all competitions this season.

They may not face too much of a threat from their Danish opponents however, who have already lost six times in the Superliga so far this season and sit sixth in the table.

With a draw and a defeat in Europe, they sit third after just two games but a 2-1 defeat to FC Midtjylland after the draw to Sevilla was a case of one step forwards, two steps back and it is likely to be another tough night as they face a barrage of Manchester City attacks.
