Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to build on their impressive away win against Borussia Monchengladbach this Wednesday when the club plays hosts to VfL Bochum at the BayArena as the away side defeated Hertha Berlin last time out.
Bochum are one place behind of their 13th-placed finish last season right now after beating Hertha 3-1. Phillip Hofmann scored in either half that day, as Keven Schlotterbeck also netted in the first half.
Bochum lost their clean sheet in the last three minutes of the game, but by beating the Berlin side, they are ahead of the relegation-sitting side in 17th by two points. On the other hand, they are clearly still in a relegation battle.
As for Leverkusen, with them bang in the middle of the table, they have the exact same goals scored record as they have for goals conceded with 28 going in at either end.
Xabi Alonso has looked promising as manager at times in the Bundesliga, but he has still managed to win only 45.45% of games so far and let in 17 goals and score 20 from 11 fixtures. Nevertheless, with a ninth-placed spot right now, Leverkusen are improving.
