Napoli midfielder Zambo Anguissa set for long injury lay-off
It's another big setback for the defending champions.
Napoli have confirmed that midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa has suffered a severe thigh injury.
Zambo Anguissa flew back early from international duty with Cameroon after sustaining an injury during the Indomitable Lions’ preparations for Thursday’s CAF World Cup qualifying semi-final against DR Congo.
It was initially reported that Zambo Anguissa had avoided a serious injury.
However, following tests, the club confirmed Zambo Anguissa had suffered a “high-grade injury to the biceps femoris of the left thigh”.
He now reportedly faces several months on the sidelines, dealing a blow to Napoli’s hopes of retaining the Scudetto.
Zambo Anguissa joins star-studded Napoli injury list
Napoli are fourth in Serie A, two points behind leaders Inter, who are ahead of Roma on goal difference.
After registering 10 goal involvements (six goals, four assists) in helping Napoli win the Scudetto last season, Zambo Anguissa had already had a hand in five goals this campaign, finding the net four times.
He now joins an injury list that already includes several key players for Napoli, with Kevin De Bruyne out until March with a hamstring issue and Romelu Lukaku expected to return in December from a long-term problem in the same area.
Napoli will host Atalanta a week on Saturday when they return from the international break.
