Pedro Porro (5.5m)
Tottenham have begun the season with an unexpected degree of defensive control, recording clean sheets in each of their opening two fixtures. Thomas Frank has clearly brought structure and balance, and Spurs may remain a touch undervalued while attention leans elsewhere. Their schedule is well timed for investment, with favourable matches all the way through to around Gameweek 10. Porro is the standout pick and my favourite defender, carrying strong attacking upside in addition to clean sheet potential. For those managing budgets more carefully, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are steady, lower-cost options into the backline. A defensive double up is even a reasonable consideration given current form and is recommended.
Neco Williams (5m)
At 0.5m cheaper than both Murillo and Nikola Milenković, Williams looks a smart way into the Nottingham Forest defence this week. The Wales full-back has nailed down a starting spot and adds some attacking intent down the flank, offering more than just clean sheet potential. Forest’s fixtures also fall kindly, with West Ham, Burnley and Sunderland all to come across three out of the next four gameweeks. That run gives managers a valuable short-term window to shore up their defence without overcommitting. If you’re looking for budget-friendly cover that frees up funds elsewhere, Williams may be the standout option.
Mohammed Kudus (6.6m)
Tottenham’s run of fixtures looks too good to ignore, and buying into their attack at this price range feels like a chance worth taking. At 6.6m, Kudus offers excellent value, already chipping in with two assists and posting an xGI of 0.39 per 90 minutes. For managers willing to spend a little extra, Brennan Johnson at 7.1m is another appealing option. He started the season with two goals and carries the stronger xGI per 90 at 0.57 all while being lower owned, though his minutes are less secure. It’s a trade off between reliability in Kudus and higher short-term explosive potential in Johnson – both remain solid buys.
Bruno Fernandes (9m)
Fernandes remains in that tricky bracket where he’s not an outright buy, but certainly not yet a sell either. Had he kept his cool from the spot last week, he would’ve walked away with a 12-13 point haul after already picking up defensive contribution returns. While his form hasn’t quite clicked so far, the underlying FPL involvement is still there, and he’s come close to another big score. With Burnley up next, he could even be a differential captaincy option. Give him this week before making the call on whether to ship him out.
Morgan Rogers (7m)
Like Fernandes, both Rogers and Ollie Watkins fall into the “hold, don’t panic” category for now. Aston Villa haven’t exactly flown out of the blocks in their opening two matches, but the fixtures are about to turn in their favour. Between Gameweeks four and seven they meet Everton, Sunderland and Burnley – a run that looks tailor made for attacking returns. Watkins remains a proven FPL scorer who can deliver at any time, while Rogers offers a cheaper way in and has shown his talent last season. With other managers quick to sell, holding firm – or even buying early – could pay off.
