FPL Gameweek 38 is here, and this is the final chance to be ruthless. If you’re protecting rank, keep it tidy and avoid unnecessary risks; if you’re chasing, the move now is to remove dead ends and make room for players who are actually guaranteed to start. This season has had the usual FPL chaos, but the key has been staying flexible through it all. Here are five players I’d be comfortable selling before the final deadline.
Table of Contents
Morgan Rogers (7.3m)
Rogers away at Manchester City feels like a classic final-day dead end. Villa have already had their big moment with the Europa League win, and this fixture gives them very little to play for beyond turning up and getting through the day. Even if some of the main men start, this is still not the kind of game you want to be relying on for a meaningful return. City at home is one of the toughest places to target, especially in a match that could easily become controlled rather than open. In the final week, you need players with a real path to points, not just a shirt on the team sheet. Rogers looks like a sell to me.
Joao Pedro (7.4m)
Any injury concern at this stage of the season is an immediate problem, and Joao Pedro’s knee issue makes him a sell for now. Even if the injury isn’t as serious as first feared, the uncertainty alone is enough to push him out of your plans for Gameweek 38. The final day is no time to carry a player who might not start or could be managed carefully. You want clarity, minutes and a reliable route to points, and right now he doesn’t give you that. If reports somehow come back clean, you can always reconsider, but as things stand he’s too risky to keep. Move him on and avoid the headache.
Antoine Semenyo (8.1m)
A slight gamble this week is the Manchester City midfield, because with little on the line and the parting Pep Guardiola eager to go out on a high, any of them could explode. The issue, as always, is figuring out who actually starts. Keep an eye on team news and leaks before making a move, because the upside is there but the minutes are far from secure. If I had to lean one way early, I’d be bracing for a Semenyo benching with Phil Foden potentially starting in Pep’s final game. One to keep an eye on.
Declan Rice (7.2m)
Rice is another one where the context kills the appeal. Arsenal have already wrapped up the title, and with a Champions League final against PSG coming up, there’s little reason to risk key players who might need protecting. His attacking output hasn’t been strong enough to offset the risk either, and the DEFCON numbers have dropped off at the wrong time. In a final week, that combination is just not enough. You want upside or security, and Rice offers neither in a convincing way right now. There’s no need to keep a player taking up space when the ceiling is so limited.
Maxence Lacroix (5.2m)
Lacroix has been a dependable FPL defender for long stretches, especially thanks to his DEFCON floor, but the final day brings new concerns. Palace are up against Arsenal, and that is not the kind of fixture you want when the opposition is likely to celebrate and finish on a high. On top of that, rotation remains a real possibility with the Conference League final around the corner, so even his nailed status feels less certain now. He’s been a very useful asset this season, but Gameweek 38 is about certainty and upside. With those factors combined, he feels like a sell rather than a hold. No need to take unnecessary risks now.
