Wojciech Szczesny speaks out after heart scare in Juventus’ win over Sporting

Juventus star Wojciech Szczesny has moved to allay fears over his wellbeing, on the back of the club’s meeting with Sporting CP.

For those not aware, Juve were back in action a short time ago.

In the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final clash between the clubs, Massimiliano Allegri’s troops welcomed Portuguese giants Sporting to Turin.

And, when all was said and done, on the back of a tense 90 minutes, the Bianconeri did enough to take an advantage to Lisbon next week.

A solitary goal proved the difference on the night, as Dusan Vlahovic’s header was kept out on the line, only for Federico Gatti to slot home on the rebound:

And yet, when all was said and done at the Allianz Stadium, it was not the eventual result which took its place centre in the post-match chatter.

Former Arsenal man Szczesny sparked widespread concern during the first-half of action on Thursday night.

This came upon the Pole, out of the blue, taking to his knees, whilst clutching his chest.

Juventus’ stars quickly swarmed to their teammate, followed in turn by the hosts’ medical staff, amid tense scenes in Turin.

Szczesny was subsequently able to make his way off the pitch unaided, but looked in serious distress, with tears streaming from his eyes.

An ensuing update on the situation, thankfully, proved a positive one, as it was revealed that the 32-year-old was doing well, after complaining of heart palpitations.

And now, Szczesny has spoken out, to reassure family, friends and the football world as a whole that he is in good health:

“I was worried, I was not able to breathe but now I feel good. The tests confirmed that there’s no problem.”
