Raheem Sterling appears to aim dig at Frank Lampard & Graham Potter

Raheem Sterling appears to have aimed a thinly veiled dig at Chelsea’s last two managers.

Chelsea had a simply woeful 2022/23 campaign in all competitions.

The Blues spent over £600m in the summer and winter windows on some quality players.

However, they performed poorly in all cup competitions and finished 12th in the Premier League.

Graham Potter was brought in early in the season but failed to recreate the success he had at Brighton.

And after Potter was sacked, Frank Lampard endured an awful caretaker stint.

Mauricio Pochettino will now take charge of Chelsea heading into 2023/24, and after the Argentine’s arrival was made official on Monday, Raheem Sterling has been discussing what the former Tottenham boss will bring.

“From his time before at Tottenham, I heard a conversation about him and he’s the exact person that we need,” Sterling told Arab News.

“He will bring leadership, he will challenge players physically and mentally and I think he is going to come here and he is going to have the personality that everyone is going to respect.

“That’s what we need, someone in charge.”

He added: “We have a good squad, the quality is there. We will add some players and some will leave, I get it, but there’s no doubt in my mind we will be challenging again very soon.

“It’s been hard work, it’s been a tough season, but I always believe after tough times there will be good times if you keep working hard.”
