Sam Allardyce speaks out over Leeds future following relegation

Leeds United head coach Sam Allardyce has, on Sunday evening, provided a brief update on his future.

Allardyce, of course, oversaw what could ultimately prove to be his final fixture on the Leeds bench earlier today.

Amid a last-ditch attempt to stave off relegation to The Championship, the Whites welcomed Tottenham Hotspur to Elland Road.

When all was said and done, however, owing to another hugely underwhelming display, such efforts came up short.

After shipping four goals to Spurs, Leeds’ return to the 2nd tier of English football was therefore made official.

One major question which now comes to the fore for the powers that be in west Yorkshire, in turn, is the managerial situation at the club.

A dismal haul of just one point secured from an available 12, however, has since seen many understandably suggest that the move marked a major mistake.

Speaking to the media late on Sunday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his future beyond the summer, and specifically the chances of his terms being renewed into next season, was put to Allardyce himself.

And the former Newcastle and Everton boss refused to rule out as much, ahead of a meeting with the Leeds hierarchy next week:

“That’s a discussion we will have next week at some stage, once we get over the disappointment of being relegated.”

“Is it [Leeds United] going to be bought or stay the same? That’s probably the first thing that needs to get sorted out before they even speak to me. If I’m going to do anything it’s going to be here [at Leeds]. But we’re going to have to thrash it out for both sides to be comfortable.”
