Antonio Conte-Christian Eriksen reunion touted at Tottenham this summer

Word stemming from the media on Friday points towards Tottenham Hotspur eyeing a reunion with former midfield standout Christian Eriksen ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Danish international Eriksen, of course, secured a return to English football this past January.

After seeing his contract with Italian heavyweights Inter Milan terminated owing to Serie A’s rules surrounding the use of implanted cardioverter defibrillators, a device which the 30-year-old was fitted with on the back of his frightening cardiac arrest at last summer’s European Championships, Eriksen was afforded a fresh start by Premier League newcomers Brentford.

And to say that this is an opportunity which the Dane has since gone on to take full advantage of would be putting it lightly.

Eriksen has featured in all of Brentford’s last four league outings, notching a goal and an assist along the way, proving beyond any measure of doubt that he remains more than capable of cutting his teeth at the top level of the game.

Spurs return?

With such form, though, has come inevitable speculation surrounding Eriksen’s future beyond the summer.

The 30-year-old’s terms with Brentford are due to come to an end upon the conclusion of the campaign, with it currently unclear where he stands on the possibility of putting pen to paper on an extension in west London.

And, as alluded to above, should Eriksen ultimately come to the decision to move on, then one club expected to be firmly in the running for his signature comes in the form of Tottenham.

The Dane, of course, spent six-and-a-half hugely successful years on the Lilywhite half of north London earlier in his career.

As per a report from inews, as cited by the Daily Mail, though, Eriksen’s time on Spurs’ books may not yet have come to a definitive close.

This comes with those in a position of power at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium contemplating tabling a contract proposal to their one-time star in the summer, in the case he opts to become a free agent.

Antonio Conte is understood to have green-lighted the move, keen on a reunion with the midfielder after the pair’s time spent together en route to Scudetto glory at Inter Milan.

Competition, though, is expected to be fierce, with fellow Premier League outfits Manchester United, Newcastle United and of course, Brentford, all also interested in Eriksen’s services.
