Revealed: What Abramovich’s statement means for Chelsea ownership and potential sale of club

Fresh insight into the developing situation at Premier League giants Chelsea has been provided late on Saturday evening.

The news which rocked the Blues fanbase to its very core was of course forthcoming a short time ago.

This came in the form of an official statement on the part of owner Roman Abramovich, in which the billionaire businessman confirmed his intention to ‘give trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC’.

The statement, released across the club’s social media platforms and official website, in full, reads as follows:

”During my nearly 20-year ownership of Chelsea FC, I have always viewed my role as a custodian of the Club, whose job it is ensuring that we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities. I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart. I remain committed to these values. That is why I am today giving trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC.

‘Not for sale’

News of Abramovich’s decision of course comes amid the ongoing backlash against his home country of Russia, on the back of the nation’s invasion of Ukraine this week.

What, though, does it ultimately mean for the ownership situation at Stamford Bridge?

Well, as alluded to above, a short time ago, an insight into precisely that was provided online.

The info comes courtesy of widely-renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has assured that Chelsea’s stance remains that the club is absolutely ‘not for sale’, with Abramovich still in place as owner:
