20. Bournemouth

Of the three newly-promoted sides this season, a strong case can be made that Bournemouth have by far the weakest squad.

The Cherries lack a Premier League quality goalscorer and have also had a very underwhelming summer transfer to date, signing only Ryan Fredricks and Joe Rothwell at the time of writing.

Said duo, on top of their current side, is unlikely to be enough to keep Bournemouth up.

19. Fulham

Fulham have brought in a couple of decent players following their latest promotion to the Premier League.

However, they seem to do this every time they come up and still end up going back down. This may have something to do with the fact their main source of goals, Aleksandr Mitrovic, is pretty goal-shy once he gets into the top-flight.

18. Nottingham Forest

Forest are above the remaining two newly-promoted teams simply because of the number of players they have brought in this summer.

But whilst Forest made several quality additions, including two top-half Premier League talents in Jesse Lingard and Dean Henderson, Forest’s downfall is likely to come because they are trying to bed in so many players – 12 at the time of writing – at once.

We have seen sides, such as Fulham and Tottenham, sign a high number of players in one window before and, for the most part, it doesn’t work out.

17. Southampton

Southampton have signed some promising young talents this summer. However, the Saints still have one of the worst squads in the Premier League and are only likely to survive the drop because Ralph Hasenhuttl is a good manager and the three teams below them are simply not good enough to compete.

But don’t be surprised to see them once again surprise a few people and finish higher than expected. They will need to replace the goals of Armando Broja however.

16. Everton

Everton endured a relegation scrap in 2021/22 and another is expected this term, especially if the Toffees persist with Frank Lampard in the dugout.

Everton are a badly run club with a less than impressive manager, but they should survive simply due to the quality of players at the club. However they have yet to significantly strengthen beyond the addition of James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil, and could find themselves short unless Dominic Calvert-Lewis rediscovers his mojo.

15. Brentford

Brentford demonstrated they can hang with the best in the Premier League on their day in 2021/22, in large part because of the tactical prowess of Thomas Frank.

The Bees have since added a couple of decent players to their ranks this summer, which should help them maintain their top-flight status for another campaign.

14. Leeds United

After their form fell off a cliff under Marcelo Bielsa, Jesse Marsch came in to steady the ship at the end of last season.

Marsch has since firmly put his imprint on the squad, with Leeds bringing in players from the Bundesliga and the Austrian Bundesliga.

Said players should provide Marsch with the quality needed to avoid a relegation scrap this season, though Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha will of course be big misses.

13. Brighton

Brighton have one of the best managers in the Premier League in Graham Potter. However, the Seagulls sold one of their top players in Yves Bissouma this summer and are yet to replace him.

The rest of their limited business in 2022 has also been pretty uninspiring.

12. Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace’s youth drive has continued from the summer of 2021, with Palace signing more young talent such as Chris Richards from Bayern Munich and Malcolm Ebiowei.

This should give Patrick Vieira a decent chance of competing for a top-10 finish, though it may just be out of reach due to the quality of the sides above them.

11. Newcastle United

Eddie Howe was able to come in and, thanks to a big-spending January, guide Newcastle up to 11th in the PL table.

The Magpies will now have Kieran Trippier back fit for a full campaign and have signed a quality centre-back in Sven Botman.

The North East outfit are expected to add a few more quality assets to their side this summer as well, making a top 11/10 finish very likely.

10. Wolves

Wolves have been one of the quieter sides on the transfer front in 2022, signing just Nathan Colins from Burnley.

However, Bruno Lage was able to guide this squad to 10th last term and there is no reason why he cannot do so again in 2022/23.

9. Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s 2021/22 ended in pretty uninspiring fashion, with the Villains all the way down in 14th.

However, Steven Gerrard and co. got their business done early this summer and, for the most part, it was pretty smart.

Philippe Coutinho is now a permanent fixture at Villa Park whilst Boubacar Kamara – one of the most effective defensive midfielders in Ligue 1 last season – and Diego Carlos have also joined their ranks.

8. Leicester City

Leicester City are yet to sign a single player this summer so far and could lose James Maddison to Newcastle.

However, they have climbed up this list because they have a decent squad which no longer has to contend with European football.

7. West Ham

West Ham have added a much-needed striker and centre-back to their ranks this summer.

They have also managed to keep hold of their top two assets – Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice.

As a result, the Hammers should have little issue staying in and around the European places in 2022/23.

6. Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has already got Manchester United playing some nice football in pre-season and the Red Devils should be a much better side this campaign.

However, United lack any real depth, especially in their forward line, and this could cost them over a hectic season which includes a World Cup.

The likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea are also much further along in their protects, with Manchester United once again having to rip everything up and start again under Ten Hag.

5. Arsenal

Arsenal have been smart in their transfer business this summer whilst also keeping hold of their better players.

Gabriel Jesus, in particular, looks a real coup for the Gunners. However, we are predicting another fifth-placed finish because the sides above them still have more quality/better managers.

4. Chelsea

Chelsea’s summer business has been decent so far, with Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly clearly top-quality players.

However, Chelsea’s main issue remains, with that of course being they simply do not score enough goals to compete at the highest level.

The displays of Edouard Mendy of late are also cause for concern for the Blues.

3. Tottenham

Antonio Conte did an excellent job of getting Tottenham into the top-four last season following their horrific start under Nuno Espirito Santo.

And now Harry Kane is firing on all cylinders, Conte has had a pre-season to implement his style and Spurs have been smart in the market, they should be able to compete more closely with Liverpool and Tottenham.

2. Liverpool

Liverpool are obviously a top side and have some of the best players in the world. However, they failed to catch Manchester City in 2021/22 and are now arguably a worse side after they swapped Sadio Mane for Darwin Nunez.

1. Manchester City

Manchester City have sold a number of squad players this summer. However, they have brought in Erling Haaland, who has the potential to be the best striker in the world, and Kalvin Phillips, who is a quality defensive midfielder.

A left-back signing would cap off an excellent window for the Sky Blues, who should have more than enough to stave off another title challenge from a weaker Liverpool team.
