Havertz jokes Arsenal now Tottenham’s biggest fans as title race goes to the wire

Kai Havertz says he and his Arsenal team-mates will be Tottenham’s biggest fans on Tuesday as they pray for a favour from their North London rivals in the title race.

Arsenal returned to the Premier League summit with a 1-0 away win over Erik ten Hag’s depleted Manchester United on Sunday, Havertz teeing up Leandro Trossard for the all-important goal.

With the Gunners now one point clear of City, the title race is certain to be decided on the final day.

However, should City win their game in hand at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday, the champions will start next Sunday – when they host West Ham – with the advantage.

Should Ange Postecoglou’s team avoid defeat, it would mean their neighbours enter their home match against Everton with the title race in their hands.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Sunday’s win, Havertz joked he had no reservations about cheering for Arsenal’s eternal rivals.

“We’re going to be the biggest fans of Tottenham ever! We are all going to be,” he said. “Let’s hope for the best.”

Speaking alongside Havertz, Trossard said of City’s game in hand: “You never know, we can only hope. We have done our job and that’s the only thing we could have done.

“There’s only one objective and that’s to try to win the league. We have done our job today and we took it to the final day, which was our aim.

“It will be a nice week, and then hopefully we can celebrate something.”
