Betting prediction: Norwich City 0 – 2 Brighton

Norwich City welcomes Brighton to Carrow Road on Saturday for this Premier League match.

The Seagulls have the upper hand in the head-to-head, with 2 wins from the only 2 encounters between them so far in the Premier League.

However, in all competitions, it is Norwich who boast the slight upper hand with 34 wins to Brighton’s 32 from 90 competitive matches. Although, the majority of these matches took place pre-1960 when the two sides regularly faced each other in the old Division Three South.

The most recent matches have been dominated by Brighton with 3 wins from 4.

Norwich City vs Brighton: Match preview

Saturday sees two sides who were tipped for a relegation battle by pundits before a ball was kicked in anger this season face each other.

Sadly, for Norwich fans, the prediction of them returning to the Championship immediately – just as they did in 2020 – looks a safe bet. The Canaries have just 1 point from 7 games, have scored less than half as many goals as any other Premier League side with just 2, and have conceded the most goals with 16.

They currently have fewer points than they had at the same stage of the 2019/20 campaign in which they were ultimately relegated from bottom place in the table, 13 points adrift of Watford in 19th.

For Brighton, though, a relegation battle will be far from their thoughts at the moment. They currently sit 6th in the table, tied with Manchester City, United and Everton above them with 14 points, and only 2 points behind league-leaders Chelsea.

Only Chelsea and Manchester City have conceded fewer goals this season than Graham Potter’s side. However, conceding goals was never too much of an issue for Brighton. In fact, despite finishing 16th in the table last campaign, they conceded only 2 goals more than runners-up Manchester United. The problem for Brighton was always at the other end of the pitch: scoring goals.

The fact that they have 8 goals this season, which is the second-lowest amount in the top 10 and the same as 19th-placed Newcastle United, will be a slight concern.

Ultimately, though, Brighton are where they are this season on merit. They were by far the better team against Arsenal last time out, and deserved more from the match than a point. They have also recently beaten Leicester and a Brentford side who have taken the Premier League by storm this season.

We believe that the Seagulls will be too strong for Norwich at the weekend, and win by 2 clear goals.

Norwich City team news vs Brighton

Rocky Bushiri is still on the long-term injury list with a meniscus injury.

Sam Byram is rehabbing a thigh injury he suffered last season, although he is showing encouraging signs in training. No return date has been provided as of yet for first-team contention.

Przemyslaw Placheta hasn’t been involved in a Premier League squad yet this season, as he is still suffering symptoms from a COVID-19 infection picked up in pre-season.

Bali Mumba is also out after he dislocated his knee following a bad tackle in the League Cup game against Bournemouth.

Todd Cantwell (above) has missed the last 2 league games with an Achilles injury. He returned to training during the international break and faces a late fitness test to be involved here.

Christoph Zimmermann is still struggling with an ankle injury and is unlikely to be involved. Although, should he prove his fitness in training, the German central defender could earn a place on the bench.

Mathias Normann was struggling with an abdominal injury over the international break. Should he not recover in time for this match, Billy Gilmour looks likely to replace him in midfield.

Brighton team news vs Norwich City

Tudor Baluta and Kjell Scherpen are still out due to injury for Brighton.

Steven Alzate also looks set for a spell on the sidelines after having ankle surgery.

Danny Welbeck’s return from injury was a brief one. He has injured his hamstring and is now seeing a specialist with a view to solving the problem.

Adam Webster has missed the last 3 league games with a thigh injury. He faces a late fitness test to be involved here.

Enock Mwepu missed the last 2 matches with a tight groin. Like Webster, he faces a late fitness test.

Yves Bissouma sat out the last 2 matches due to a knee injury. He perhaps could have played some part in the match against Arsenal but was held back to have the international break to fully recover. Bissouma is expected to start here in place of Jakub Moder.

Tariq Lamptey (above) has been an unused substitute in the last 3 matchday squads, but could be in line to start here after 2 weeks to work on his fitness during the international break.
